Anniversaries in Ohrdruf

This summer marks the tenth anniversary of the introduction of the automated guided vehicle system in Ohrdruf. And the HUB (now HAB) in the Thuringian plant is also celebrating its tenth anniversary.

Anniversary No. 1: The AGV

In summer 2011, the automated guided vehicle system (AGV), developed and built by the company DS-Automation-Linz/Austria in cooperation with the vehicle manufacturer Still, was used for the first time in the outgoing goods department of our plant in Ohrdruf. The AGV is an automated transport system for picked goods and consists of a total of 40 low-floor and twelve high-lift units. After an employee has been assigned to a specific vehicle and the corresponding orders via the control center, the colleague takes care of picking and loading the vehicle. The AGV then takes over the transfer to the sorter and any other tasks completely autonomously. If necessary, the employee can also be transported to the destination. The system is monitored in real time via monitors in the control center. Fault reports can therefore be received and rectified as quickly as possible.

Anniversary no. 2: The HUB (now HAB)

On September 1, 2011, Hermes Germany's large HUB at the Ohrdruf site (operating as an independent Hermes delivery base under the name HAB Ohrdruf GmbH since March 1, 2020) started work. While eleven commercial and 25 industrial employees worked there at the beginning, there are now 52 in total - and the HAB continues to grow!

At HAB, parcels with a maximum width of 900 mm, a maximum length of 2000 mm and a maximum weight of 31.5 kg are allocated to a total of 46 depots on six working days a week in a two-shift system and handed over to customers such as Hermes Fulfilment Ohrdruf, Hermes Germany and myToys using the driverless transport system. Over 120 million consignments have been sorted and loaded in this way over the past ten years.

This must be celebrated !

The two anniversaries were celebrated in strict compliance with the coronavirus rules with around 400 employees at the site. On September 3, the colleagues were able to enjoy a large festive buffet in bright sunshine. Hobby musician Rene Faulstich, who has been working in the outgoing goods department in Ohrdruf for seven years, provided the musical backdrop to the event with lively rhythms. "Our heartfelt thanks for the great organization go to the hard-working helpers from the FührWandel team, the HAB and the operating technology department," says Ronald Ganther, Group Manager Inbound in Ohrdruf. "And a big thank you goes to Mahlzeit for the delicious buffet."
